Aartjan chose to take a different path after having worked in the financial and professional services sector for 15 years. Immediately after his studies and later while working at KPMG and SNS REAAL, he worked as a volunteer for various social foundations and associations. Manou is driven by a strong sense of justice. Her sociology studies in International Migration and Public Policy at LSE (with honours) focused on inequality, human rights and refugees. She provided legal assistance to asylum seekers who had no documentation and worked at the United Nations in New York for two years when the Sustainable Development Goals were being negotiated. She has worked for the Fred Foundation since 2018. In the role of Refugee Programme Manager, she focuses on systemic change for people who have had to flee. She draws inspiration from all the beautiful, creative and innovative initiatives she sees in the field and the impassioned people she works with. She lives in Amsterdam with her partner Martin and their two children Lou and Mat\u00eds. Jasper is grateful to have grown up amid the nature of Twente. He is convinced that this is where his love for nature was born Jasper is dedicated to helping nature and climate restoration through the Nature and Climate theme. He works enthusiastically and intuitively, and he has a no-nonsense mentality. Anna has a wide-ranging background. Fifteen years ago, while studying philosophy, she started an organic lunch caf\u00e9 with a local art gallery, followed by numerous other projects. There was always a common denominator to these projects: making the world a better place. Anna is grateful that she can put that into practice with her work at the Fred Foundation. For the last four years, she has been involved in the Food4Smiles project as a project leader. At the end of 2022, she started focusing on the Public Interests theme, which centres on investigative journalism. <\/span>Anna lives in Delft with her partner Ben, daughter Josje <\/span>and son Maas. <\/span>. After a career in marketing and running her own advertising agency, Martine is now Program Manager Animal Welfare and Operations Manager. She also fulfills the latter role for the affiliated foundations Flowfund and Essentia Foundation.<\/p>

\u201cWhen I look into my dog\u2019s eyes, it\u2019s as if the veils of human fuss are lifted. For a brief moment, I feel connected to consciousness, to the essence. I know no faster journey from the head to the heart.\u201d<\/i><\/p>

The way humans treat animals is often shocking. Many animals are systematically exploited and treated as products: overcrowded factory farms, overfed chickens collapsing under their own weight, calves taken from their mothers immediately after birth, pigs so confined that they cannot turn around, painful procedures without anesthesia, and long, stressful transports.<\/span><\/p>

Animals have the right to live according to their nature. Eating less and better-quality meat, and keeping animals in a more humane way, benefits not only the animals but also humans and the environment.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Sandra\u2019s background includes general medical training and she has had the opportunity to work on many wonderful projects at home and abroad. She worked with Fred Matser in the 1990s on the theme of Inspiration in Healthcare and has been part of the Fred Foundation team since 2019. She explores initiatives both inside the Netherlands and beyond its borders that give people more security for their livelihoods, actively helping think things through and establishing interconnections where possible. In addition to her work for the Fred Foundation, Sandra volunteers one day a week at Kruispost, a medical station for uninsured people. Johan Bontje (1952) was partner and co-owner of Boer & Croon Strategy and Management Group in Amsterdam from 1980 until 2000 and amongst others lecturer at the Free University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Presently he works as an independent boardroom consultant and executive coach for individuals and teams. As former chairman of the Foundation for Natural Leadership Johan still undertakes journeys with leaders to Africa and Europe. With his focus on general management \u2013 with its human and business sides – he has a quick understanding of the work environment. With a broad international background and work experience, academic degree (communications) and INSEAD MBA, Lyke Matser (1980) joined the board as of July 1, 2024. Through her father, Fred Matser (founder Fred Foundation), it was instilled in her at an early age what a privilege it is to get involved in charity.<\/p>

The years living in Norway taught her the value of spending a lot of time with her Norwegian husband and children in nature. Lyke believes it is important to teach children to love nature and make them aware of their own impact on nature and their environment. Nature is good for developing senses, motor skills, concentration, thinking skills and creativity.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Fred Matser (1945) is a leading Dutch philanthropist, humanitarian and philosopher. He headed a successful commercial real estate company. A life-changing experience radically affected his vision on life, death and the human condition. Fred uses insights gained from his intuition, to restore the dynamic balance and harmony in ourselves, between people and in nature. He does this through the work of a large number of foundations he has founded and funded, such as Fred Foundation, Essentia Foundation, Flowfund and ForestPeace Foundation of which he was chairman for many years. <\/h6>\n

Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, was one of the world\u2019s most renowned scientists.<\/b> She gained international recognition for her groundbreaking research on chimpanzees in Gombe National Park, Tanzania. In 1977, she founded the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI), which is globally recognized for its innovative, community-based programs in conservation and development in Africa, as well as the international youth program Roots & Shoots<\/i>, now active in over 90 countries.<\/p>\n

Dr. Goodall also served for many years as a board member of the Fred Foundation, for which we continue to honor her. Fred Matser shared a close friendship with her.<\/span><\/p>\n

On October 1, 2025, Dr. Goodall passed away. She was regarded as a pioneer in her field, not only for her scientific discoveries in the 1960s but also because she was one of the few female scientists at that time.<\/p>\n

Later in her career, her focus shifted from science to climate activism. In her research areas, she witnessed firsthand the destruction of chimpanzees\u2019 natural habitats. Drawing on that experience, she tirelessly advocated for urgent and immediate climate action. \u201cYes, there is hope,\u201d she said in 2002. \u201cIt is in our hands \u2014 in your hands and mine, and in those of our children. It is up to us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Deepak Chopra (1946) is the author of more than seventy-five books translated into over thirty-five languages, including numerous New York Times bestsellers in both the fiction and nonfiction categories. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Adjunct Professor at Kellogg School of Management and Senior Scientist with The Gallup Organization.<\/p>
