Media Defence provides legal help to journalists, citizen journalists and independent media across the world.
About the initiative:
Media Defence was founded in 2008 and has since focused on providing legal support to journalists and media. They do this through:
- (Legal) emergency defense
- Strategic litigation
- Capacity building, supporting and strengthening of local partner organizations
Media Defence is unique in what they do, to date they are the only organization in the world solely focused on providing legal aid to journalists. Unfortunately, because of their reporting many journalists are threatened and the legal support of Media Defence is vital to ensure that these journalists can continue to report on issues of public interest
